Your Speech ~ Sunday Devotional
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)
Some things salt is used for:
- Enhance the taste of food
- Act as a preservative
- Binding agent
- Controls fermentation in baked goods, meaning it slows the growth of bacteria
Do you remember our verse a couple of weeks ago? In Galatians 5, it says “This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough!”
I asked you what happened?
What happened to make you feel less than? To make you feel like you needed to look a certain way to be liked, accepted, loved? To cause you to listen to the lies around you?
Today’s verse has us thinking about our speech. I would suggest that we need to evaluate the words we speak to ourselves, the voices we listen to about diet talk, and the dialogue we have about current issues.
Do you give yourself grace? What about others?
Are your words salty?
Do your words enhance the current conversation and add life to others?
Do the words you speak to yourself preserve your integrity and confidence?
How do your words, and those you listen to, build community and bring people together?
Do your words spread negativity or do you put a stop to words that aren’t uplifting to yourself and others?
Let’s spend some quiet time considering the words we’re speaking to the person in the mirror as well as to those around us. And then let us filter the words we allow into our lives.
Choose to be salty today…in the best of ways! 😉
Happy Sunday!
