Where Your Beauty Comes From ~ Sunday Devotion
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)
How is the person who recently got her hair colored with blue highlights writing about a verse that says your beauty shouldn’t come from things such as elaborate hairstyles? Well, I don’t believe that this verse is telling us that we shouldn’t do our hair (or in my case, just have fun with it) or dress up (in my case, I hate to do that!) or do whatever it is that you enjoy doing to look good (whatever that means to you). I believe the core message of this verse is your beauty comes from what’s inside you.
Your beauty comes from the One who lives inside you. When you are filled with God's love, it will overflow to others. Share on XThis month in my Faith and Fitness Support and Accountability Community, we’ve been talking about routines and how to become consistent with healthy habits. So far, our focus has been on how we start our days. Our morning routines set the tone for the rest of the day. If your morning priority is creating a social media worthy image, you’re going to spend your day trying to earn the approval of others. But if you start your day with Jesus, you are going to confidently step into your day knowing that you are a child of God. You don’t have to earn His love and acceptance. He loves you just as you are. You don’t have to look a certain way or where a specific size. You don’t have to wear a lot of bling to get His attention. (But if that’s your style, have fun with it and go for it!) When you receive God’s love and acceptance, you’ll stop worrying about what others think of you and start living the life He’s designed for you to live.
It’s time to embrace who and how God made you to be. Embrace your beauty, those qualities that set you apart on the inside and the outside. God didn’t intend for us to all look the same or have the same disposition. He only wants us to love Him and to love others.
