You Humbled Me ~ Sunday Devotional

“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”  Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV)

My faith and fitness journey has certainly been humbling.

For years, I struggled with my reflection in the mirror and how I felt in my body.  I was insecure and worried all the time about how I looked.

Poor me, right?  I mean, young girl to young woman eventually married woman who doesn’t like herself and feels intimidated in about every single situation.

But here’s a truth I had to admit…I was being prideful.

Sure, I was insecure.  Yes, I had low self-esteem and experienced worries to the extent that they would likely qualify as full on anxiety at a young age.  But until I allowed God to work on this area of my life, I was simply wrapped up in pride.

My focus was on me. Not in a way we often think of pride – nose in the air type of pride – but still my focus was on me.

It had to stop.  And eventually it did.

God humbled me.

He showed me that He is the most important thing.  My focus needed to shift from physical hunger – what I could/should eat and drink – to spiritual hunger and how only He could satisfy.

My struggle had nothing to do with my physical body and everything to do with who I was at my core and how much I allowed God lordship over my life.

I was like the Israelites not recognizing all that God was doing for me and how much He loved me.  I had my focus on one thing and one thing only – I wanted a better body.

I’m so thankful for God’s grace and His goodness.  I’m thankful for His forgiveness and provision. I’m thankful that He humbled me and helped me see that He is everything I need.

Is He your everything?  Is He your main desire? That which you hunger and thirst for more than anything?

Do you need to bow to Him and surrender an area of your life?

He is full of love and forgiveness and ready and waiting for you with open arms.

Happy Sunday!
