The Worries of This Life ~ Sunday Devotion
But the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Mark 4:19 (NIV)
Your children. Your bank balance. The election. The stock market. Your health. The weather. Take your pick, or add to the list. There are a number of things you can worry about. The worries of this life can be endless. According to this verse, they can choke out the Word and the presence of God in our lives if we allow them to.
My worry was my weight. I worried that I would gain weight. I was already worried that I weighed too much as it was. I worried I’d live life alone because I wasn’t thin enough or pretty enough. My worry about my weight choked out the Word of God in my life. That worry kept me from fully accepting His love for me. I read the Word. I believed in Jesus, but I was too focused on myself and my worries to live a full and fruitful life.
Worry about my weight only weighed me down mentally and spiritually until I let God set me free. #fitandfree Share on XI thought worrying about my weight would help me lose it, but the only thing that worry did was weigh me down mentally and physically. It consumed my thoughts and fueled my anxieties. I missed out on a lot of the life God had planned for me until I finally allowed Him to set me free.
Are you living a full and fruitful life? If not, what worries have choked out the Word of God and kept you from embracing your age and stage of life?
Action Step: What’s consuming your thoughts? Lay your worries at the feet of Jesus. Go to God’s Word and allow Him to shine light into your dark places. Follow Him to your promised land.
