Why Spend Your Money? ~ Sunday Devotional
“Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.” Isaiah 55:2 (NLT)
I hate to think of all of the money I spent on trying to lose weight. I bought every diet pill, plan, book, program, magazine, shake, supplement that offered even the slightest promise of weight loss. Add to it even the smallest hope of losing belly fat, and I was all in, skip the 30 day supply and go straight for 90 days!
Hot Pants, anyone? It’s been a bit since I’ve shared that story. Just wear these spandex-like shorts to bed and your waist will magically shrink overnight. These things were shipped to me from who-knows-where, but I fell for it.
I was seeking for, and spending money on, false promises. I made healthy living much more difficult and way more expensive than it was intended to be.
The pursuit was part of a larger problem that I had to eventually admit. I needed more of Jesus in my life.
I needed to believe what He said about me in His Word.
I needed to feed on His Word to heal my relationship with my body. And the great thing is that consuming His Word doesn’t cost any money. It’s free.
His gift of new life is free to us. He paid all our debts. We can consume the fine food of His Word and the wonderful truths about who we are and whose we are.
Let’s ask God to give us a hunger that only He can satisfy. When we eat from His table, we’ll gain a better perspective of how to care for our physical body.
Stop the Google searches, step away from the computer, put away your credit card, and invest some time in God’s Word today.
P.S. I still fight the urge to go looking for a quick fix or click on the latest fad. At those times, I have to do exactly what I just encouraged you to do.
Traveling this road with you!
