What Words Will You Speak? ~ Sunday Devotion
My lips will not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. Job 27:4 (NKJV)
Job had been through a lot. His life makes Alexander’s “Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” seem like a walk in the park. Yet Job chose not to let it get the best of him. When he could’ve complained, blamed God, even uttered a few curse words, he held his tongue. He wouldn’t let his circumstances get the best of him.
Have you felt like you’ve been “dealt a bad hand” when it comes to your body? Have you ever thought things like, “It doesn’t matter what I do, I can’t lose weight. I can’t get healthy. When I start exercising, I get hurt. Every time I start on a healthy path, something throws me off course.”
Through all that happened to him, Job refused to speak wickedness. How do we need to change our words to be light and life? Share on XHow many times have you “messed up” on your healthy living plan? How many negative words have you said to yourself when you feel as though you’ve failed? Maybe you blame yourself. Maybe a diet plan. Perhaps, you curse the woman who looks like she’s winning and being successful.
For many years, I allowed how I felt in my body to control how I interacted with others. If I was having a bad body image day, everyone around me paid for it. I was impatient with others. My comments to others and towards myself were negative. And my “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day” was about something as inconsequential as a number on the scale. Job had lost everything, and he still refused to speak negatively.
It’s time for us to speak kindly to ourselves and to others. It’s time for us to be honest about where our focus is and shift it from our troubles and onto Jesus.
Action Step: Pause before you speak. Take a moment to remember who you are and Whose you are. Let your words be light and life to yourself and to those around you.
Happy Sunday!
