What Happened?? ~ Sunday Devotional

Can I be honest for a minute and say that when I read the following verse, I just wanted to jump up and down and shout “This!  This right here!”

In fact, when I was writing this devotional, my fingers were flying across my keyboard.  I want you to feel the passion behind this message and the words in this verse.

“You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough!”  Galatians 5:7-9 (NLT)

Let’s get honest about our relationship with food and our body.

Whether you’re like me and started this cycle of struggle with your weight and body image at a young age, or it happened later in life for you, there was a time you were going along (running your race) feeling good in your body.  You had a good relationship with food.  All until this wasn’t the case.

At what point did someone or something plant a seed that you aren’t good enough?

When did you stop believing that you are fearfully and wonderfully made?

What made you think that you have to look a certain way to be loved?

When did you get distracted by the noise that told you you must be on a diet and pursue weight loss to be accepted?

There’s no freedom in life on a diet.

Where did this thinking come from?

It’s been planted in our minds from society and likely from real people in our lives who have judged us.

Those behind the multimillion dollar business of diet, many who try to disguise themselves as “health and wellness,” are the false teaching that’s spread to men and women of all ages.

And nothing can make my heart break more.

Friend, you were running the race so well.  What happened??

Please hear this:

You don’t have to lose weight to prove your worth.

You can stop comparing yourself to others and be you.

God has something special for you right now, and He doesn’t require you to look a certain way to live the life He’s designed for you.

You can break free from dieting and feel good in your body.

You can be fit and healthy AND be free.

And here’s the best part:   You can get back into the race and run it well.  You don’t have to stay stuck in a place of defeat.  You can shift your focus from diets and learn the truth of who God says you are and how He wants you to care for your unique body.

Need help with this?  Please reach out.  Let’s talk about what happened to get you off course and how you can get back into running the race He’s set for you.

Happy Sunday!
