What About Him? ~ Sunday Devotional

“When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”” John 21:21-22 (NIV)

Have you ever had this same thought?  Perhaps you’ve looked at someone else’s life and wondered why they have it all together or don’t have your same struggles, difficulties, challenges, trials, etc?

You know what I’m talking about.  I’ve done it.  When I didn’t like myself or my body, I wondered why she didn’t have those same insecure feelings.  And when I was alone and then when my first marriage ended and I was sure I’d be alone for the rest of my life, I looked at others and wanted to know why they had all the friends and found the perfect man.

God, why can’t you do that for me?  Lord, don’t you love me like you love her? God, why is my life crumbling around me while she’s getting the guy, losing the weight, building a successful business, becoming a best-selling author, etc?

Sometimes we get so distracted by everything going on around us that we miss the wonderful works God is doing in us.

If we’d only pause for a moment, we’d see that He always has our best interest in mind.  He is a loving Father who has the perfect plan for our individual life.

How God works in someone else does not take away from what He’s doing in our own life.  God knows the whole story and sees the entire picture.  How He chooses to bless another doesn’t add or take away from anything He can and will and wants to do in your life and mine.  We must simply follow Him.

Because following Him, running the race He’s marked out for us, is the best place to be.

Today He’s telling us not to worry ourselves about someone else’s life but only to make sure we’re following Him.  He’ll take care of the rest.

Happy Sunday!
