What Are You Wearing? ~ Sunday Devotion
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:12-15 (NIV)
What I’m comfortable wearing and what makes me feel good may be very different from your style, and that’s okay. I’m no fashionista, and that’s why today’s post has nothing to do with what you’re wearing on your body.
God has a dress code for us. Wear compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness. He even tells us what type of “overcoat” to wear: Love.
The world needs God's love. We can be the ones to share that with others when we dress with the clothes the Lord has laid out for us. Share on XWhen we dress like this, peace begins to rule in our hearts and this leads to gratitude.
Now, more than ever, we need to be concerned about what we’re clothing ourselves with daily.
Our lives are broadcast for all to see. Friends, family, strangers alike. Those watching and those we have contact with daily need our compassion, kindness, and love. Many situations will require our patience and gentleness. We can’t cultivate those things on our own. Daily, we need to go to God’s closet—His Word—to dress appropriately.
And over all these virtues put on love. The overcoat of love.
The world needs His love. We can be the ones to share that with others when we dress with the clothes the Lord has laid out for us.
Action Step: Before you go to your closet to choose what to wear today, spend some time in God’s closet, in His Word, and clothe yourself with His wardrobe.
Happy Sunday!
