Wearing Out and Getting Stronger ~ Sunday Devotion
This is the reason we do not give up. Our human body is wearing out. But our spirits are getting stronger every day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NLV)
Wearing out and getting stronger at the same time. How is that?
God’s ways are certainly not our ways. They certainly run counter to what the world teaches. Culture tells us that aging is something to fight. Every day, we’re bombarded with supplements, serums, and slogans designed to make us fear growing older.
Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m all for aging well. I truly believe some of our best and most fruitful years are still ahead. But I also know this: if my pursuit of physical health ever overshadows my spiritual growth, I’ve lost my way.
Only in God's economy can you be wearing out and getting stronger at the same time. Share on X
God invites us to see things differently. In His kingdom, the first are last, and strength is found in weakness. In Him, even as our bodies wear out, our spirits can grow stronger—if we don’t give up. If we keep pressing in. If we continue to seek more of Jesus.
By all means, engage in healthy habits. Move your body. Get a daily dose of fresh air. Strength train, walk, rest, and consult wise (menopause-trained!) professionals. Ladies over 50, 60, and beyond—lift those weights. Don’t accept the lie that decline is your only option. But most importantly, nourish your spirit. Because while your body will eventually wear out, your soul is eternal.
Here’s the simple truth: we are aging. But our spirits don’t have to weaken with time. In fact, they can flourish. But that only happens when we prioritize time with the Lord—daily, intentionally, consistently.
Action Step: You are an eternal being. Live like it. Tend to your spirit with care and intention. What will you do today to grow stronger in the only way that truly lasts?
Happy Sunday!
