Unity Over Insecurity ~ Sunday Devotion

I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. John 17:23 (NIV)

In the past, I allowed my insecurities and my pursuit of weight loss to create distance between me and my sisters in Christ. Diet culture and body comparison have quietly crept into our churches, our Bible studies, and our friendships – becoming one of the major causes of division among women.

We often hear that “comparison is the thief of joy,” but I believe it’s more than that. Comparison is the thief of community. God designed us to live connected – to Him and to each other. He said it wasn’t good for us to be alone. Scripture reminds us that when two walk together, they strengthen one another. When we gather in His name, He is with us.

But instead of linking arms in love, we sometimes drift apart in silent competition, wondering who’s thinner, who’s more disciplined, or who’s finally figured out the “right” diet.

Comparison isn't only the thief of joy it's also the thief of community. Let's choose unity over insecurity and celebrate one another. Share on X

Jesus prayed that we would be one, united in love, so that the world would know Him through our unity. If He lives in us, we must not let food rules, body image, or insecurity divide us. Let’s reject the pressure to compare and instead celebrate the beauty, strength, and faith of the women around us. We are better together – stronger in grace and brighter in love.

But if Jesus is in us, we must choose unity over insecurity. We can’t allow these superficial issues to divide us. We are to love God and love one another. Let’s celebrate each other and the unique way God has made each one of us.

Action Step: Choose unity over insecurity. Reach out to a sister in Christ this week, maybe even someone you’ve felt distant with or silently compared yourself to, and offer a word of encouragement. Pray for her. Invite her to meet up for a walk or coffee.

Happy Sunday!
