The Treasure of Your Heart ~ Sunday Devotional
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45 (NKJV)
This section of chapter 6 of Luke is titled “A tree is known by its fruit.”
Unless there is a bloom on the end of a stem, I can’t tell you the difference between a flower and a weed. And I sure can’t tell the difference in trees unless there’s something hanging off of them.
Just the same, you don’t get to know a person until you have a conversation with them or see them in action.
What’s in our hearts comes out through the words we speak and the things that we do.
But just like a tree doesn’t come from nothing so our words and our actions don’t come from nothing. They are a result of what we first consume.
The abundance of our hearts is the result of what we plant in them, invest in them, and hide in them.
What are you reading?
Who are you spending your time with?
What are you watching and listening to?
What are you thinking about?
These things contribute to what grows in our hearts. And what is growing will come out.
Let’s take some time today to consider the treasure in our hearts and how that is coming forth.
