The Beauty of the Lord ~ Sunday Devotional
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17 (NKJV)
The pursuit of beauty seems to be top of mind of every female from an early age. Over the years, we do all the things that we believe will make us beautiful. They even refer to make up and other skin care products as “beauty products.”
And what about all the diets a woman will try over her lifetime in the name of improving her look.
Yet, all the while, we simply need to surrender to the Lord.
“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us.” When I read words like “let” and “upon us,” I envision a covering. I picture pausing and the Lord blanketing us with His beauty. We need only allow Him to put His beauty on us.
He created you. You are the way you are supposed to be. There is no need to pursue all the things in order to be called “beautiful” by another’s standards.
What God desires is that we pursue Him and the life He’s designed for us to live. He doesn’t want us to become distracted by the pursuit of fleeting beauty. When we surrender to Him, He will cover us with His beauty.
Isn’t the most beautiful person that you encounter the one who is living confidently doing the thing God has called her to do?
Aren’t you most beautiful when you can look yourself in the mirror with confidence, certain that you are living the life Christ designed for you?
Beauty begins on the inside…with a heart surrendered to the Lord…and then, and only then, is it reflected on the outside. And that beauty has nothing to do with the smoothness of your skin, the number on the scale, or the clothes that you wear.
Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon you today…
Happy Sunday!
