It Will Take Some Work At First
Some things take a little effort, but they’re worth it
After a recent snowstorm, I found a quarter, a $5 bill, a $10 bill, and a penny during the days of melting. Even though I published my book with lessons I’ve learned when I’m running and finding money, I’m still finding money and learning more lessons.
The quarter that I found on one of the first days of the melt was frozen to the street. It took some effort, but I got it! This had me thinking about healthy living and getting results.
I’m all about making things easy. When I coach women on how to apply my Faith and Fitness Framework or how to take a #moderation365 approach to their nutrition, I encourage them to take small, simple steps and to think about what they can and will do that is sustainable. Still, healthy living takes some work, especially in the beginning. But it’s worth it.
I saw that quarter. I wanted that quarter. Usually, I bend over and pick up what I’ve found easily. This one took work. I couldn’t simply pick it up. I tried to pry it up with my key. No luck. Next I used the edge of my flashlight. That was what I needed to get it to pop off the ground. I went home with that quarter.
If you want results, if you want to improve your health, it will take some effort. There are a variety of tools to get you to the place you want to get. The first one you try might not be the right one for you, but don’t give up.
If you want results, you will have to put in some work at first. It will be worth it. In time, it will be sustainable and nearly effortless. Share on XFor example, let’s think about someone who wants to start exercising. If that’s you, you’re going to have to make time for it. You don’t need an hour or a gym membership, but you are going to need to find the time in your schedule and set it aside for exercising. It might take you a few times to figure out when it is going to work best for you. Or you might not know exactly how you want to exercise. It might take going on a walk or trying an exercise class or video to decide how you enjoy moving. But don’t give up. It’ll be worth it to move regularly. You’ll have more energy. Your joints will move more easily. You’ll gain confidence. You’ll sleep better.
Bonus tip: Get an accountability partner. I guarantee your chance of success goes up greatly when you have some support and accountability.
The morning I found the quarter, my running buddy was with me. He shined his flashlight on the quarter so that I could work on getting it off the street. That made it easier and quicker because I didn’t have to look around to find it after I dug out my key and when I had to use my own flashlight to finally break it free. We’re better together!
If you have a goal, if you want to improve your health, don’t quit. I could’ve quit when I thought the coin was frozen to the street. But I tried a couple of things and came home with the coin. Figure out what works for you, and do it!
Cheering you on!
