Strength From the Lord ~ Sunday Devotion
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NIV)
It’s that time of year when everyone is gearing up for their big push to get healthy. Tomorrow is the first Monday of 2025, and I imagine that hundreds of people are getting ready to start 75 Hard, Whole30, or Intermittent Fasting. There are many committing to a Keto Diet, going gluten-free, giving up sugar. More are investing in gym memberships or meal plan subscriptions. You name it, people are doing it. And how are they doing it? They are going to white-knuckle their way through each and every day, relying on their own willpower, and losing all joy in life because they think that happiness will only come when they become smaller. This is unfortunate, and it’s a sad way to live. It’s a lie too many have bought into.
None of those things I mentioned above are lasting solutions to weight loss or improved health. In fact, we can’t make any lasting change on our own. We don’t need more willpower. We need the Lord’s help. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say, “I just don’t have enough willpower.” What we need is strength from the Lord. We need His strength to follow our own path and do what He’s called us to do. And, we need strength from the Lord to stay on that path.
The means to improve our health must be directed by the Lord. When we do it His way, we won't need willpower. He'll give us His power. Share on X
This time of year, it’s way too easy to drift over to someone else’s path. It’s way too easy to follow someone along the wrong path. That’s what’s happening all around you right now with the promotion of all of these diets and extreme challenges. We need strength from the Lord not to follow the crowd.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to improve your health. The Lord wants us to be healthy so that we can do all that He’s called us to do. But the means to improve our health must be directed by the Lord. When we follow Him, He’ll give us the strength and His power, not our willpower, to make the choices that are best for our unique bodies.
Action Step: Look to the Lord for guidance and for strength to make improvements in your lifestyle. Put on blinders so that you do not become distracted by diets, gimmicks, and quick fixes. Get your strength from the Lord.
Happy Sunday!
