Sunday devotion

My Strength and Shield – Sunday Devotion

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:7 (NKJV)

I’m so thankful for the Lord’s help in every area of my life. He gives me the strength to do what He asks of me, and He shields me from harm. I can trust Him, and you can too.

God has called me into this space to help you build your healthy life on a foundation of faith. That’s why the focus of each devotion I write is how to apply scripture to your fitness.

Given the new year and the current messaging about making weight loss goals, this verse can’t be more timely. Now more than ever, it’s time for you to trust the Lord with your health and fitness. Don’t put your trust in the empty promises of yet another diet, pill, or quick fix.

Because He’s done it for me, I know the Lord can give you the strength to do the right thing for your body without being swayed by outside pressure or inner feelings of guilt and shame. He can be your shield from the ads trying to get the best of you. They’re enticing, I’ll admit it. And there was a time when I would’ve spent any amount of money on anything that promised to help me lose a few inches off of my waistline. Why? I thought losing weight was the answer to feeling better in my body.

But the truth is that no amount of weight loss will heal what’s happening in your mind and your spirit. It takes putting your trust in the Lord to find peace and freedom in regards to your body image.

I praise the Lord that the pursuit of weight loss no longer has a hold on me – on my mindset, on my wallet, on my time, on my energy.

His strength is available to you too. You can trust Him with your body. He will give you the strength to make choices that are best for your unique body. If you ask Him, He’ll shield you from the noise vying for your attention, your money, your peace, your confidence.

Action Step: Pray that God will give you the strength to do the right thing in terms of caring for your body and that He will shield you from the distractions that are trying to take your eyes off of Him.

Happy Sunday!
