How to Stay Active During the Holidays – Workouts Included

How am I supposed to stay active during this busy season?  I’m exhausted as it is!

Earlier this week I sent my vacation workouts to my email list.  The workouts were short and simple.  I did them in the cabin where we stayed with no equipment.  And then we hiked and walked.

This time of year can get quite busy.  Even if you have a gym membership, you don’t have time to get there.  Wouldn’t it be much simpler to do something at home?  And better yet not have to have a bunch of equipment?

I hooked up with some of my friends who have graciously shared some of their favorite workouts that you can do at home and/or with minimal equipment.  Don’t let the holiday season derail your fitness plans.  In fact, I find that taking 10~20 minutes a day, 30 minutes max, can help you feel so much better and truly enjoy the happenings.  Keeping some type of exercise plan in your schedule will help you feel fresh and will actually energize you for all the extra fun and festivities and will work out a little stress that might creep up from time to time!

Being busy is not the same as staying active.

Recently I posted a blog with tips on finding ways to exercise such as getting up a bit early or using windows throughout the day like breaks or lunch hour or waiting in the pick up line at school.

I can’t tell you how important it is to move.  Even 5 minutes in the morning stretching or doing a few squats and holding plank can wake up your body and give you an extra boost.  And don’t underestimate the value of a walk around the block at any time of the day or multiple times a day when you have a few minutes.

Now it’s time to check out some great workouts my friends shared with me to share with you!

Fiona shares a workout with no equipment required….just you!

Chrissy’s workout will take you to the local track, or you can use an open road or maybe a neighborhood loop.

Tara gives us a fun holiday pyramid workout that only requires you have a step or a stair in your house.

Traveling?  Anne gives us a workout you can do  right inside your hotel room or the guest room where you’re staying!

Short on time?  Chrissy shows us how to keep our muscles firing and stay in the game with this 6:00 workout.  Just 6 minutes a day!

  1. Great round up Marsha!! I am teaching a bootcamp on Thanksgiving morning – so hopefully that will keep my metabolism up for the feasting later! 🙂

    1. Thanks Sarah! Our running group always meets up on Thanksgiving morning for a 5 mile run. It’s a nice way to start the holiday. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of people show up for bootcamp that morning!

    1. It’s always good for me to have another race on my calendar. I love having something to work towards and a goal. You have an ambitious calendar for the next couple of years. I know you’ll crush it!

  2. Nice group of workout ideas! Thanks for including my 6 minute workout! The holidays can certainly be a time of chaos. But taking just a little time to invent in yourself can make a world of difference.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing the workout with us Chrissy! That is an excellent workout! I think it’s encouraging to people to know they don’t always have to invest a ton of time to stay fit.
