stand on a corner

What Would You Stand on a Corner For?

Although I haven’t stepped foot in our local Wal-Mart in well over 5 years, I drive by it regularly (Starbucks and Dunkin’ are nearby!). Most days, there are people standing on a corner by a stand of brochures. More times than not, I’ve found myself shaking my head and saying, “I wouldn’t do that.” But then it got me wondering, what would I stand on the corner for? Clearly, these people believe in this cause, whatever it may be. (And truthfully, I have no idea what it is.) But what do I believe in so much that I’d stand on a corner to share it with others?

If you’ve gone through any of my challenges – Drink More (water!), Eat More (slowly!), Move More, and Pray More – you got a glimpse of each pillar of my Faith and Fitness Framework™. It’s my approach to a sustainable healthy lifestyle and how I coach women who want to find motivation from God’s Word to live an active and healthy life. This framework is a result of years of seeking peace and freedom in regards to my relationship with my own body.

I was nearly 40 years old before I found the answer. To be sure, I had the answer within me all of those years because I had given my life to Christ at an early age. Nevertheless, I made it my life’s mission to pursue weight loss. I did go to God with my struggle, but I didn’t trust Him with it. I took it into my own hands and tried every diet, gimmick, and quick fix available to help me lose weight and make peace with my body.

Eventually, God got my attention when I read Deuteronomy 2:3. It was the moment God told Moses that they had been circling the mountain long enough and it was time to turn north. 40 years in their desert. 40 years in mine. It was time to stop circling and to be set free.

After that, the Lord helped me see what was essential to living fit and free. You see, not dieting doesn’t mean not caring for your body. It simply means you begin to honor it in the unique way God created it at your age and stage of life. He showed me how to take the elements we know are essential for a healthy life (drinking water, moving regularly, consuming nutritious food) and implement them without obsessing over them. Most importantly, the foundation must be faith. And that’s what makes what I do and how I help women different. It’s all through the lens of faith. It’s built on God’s Word.

Everyone believes in something. What do you believe in so strongly that you would stand on a corner for it? This is my answer. #FitAndFree Click To Tweet

This message that you can live fit and free is a message I’d share on a corner. I’d have brochures that told you about my Faith and Fitness Framework™. Then, I’d talk to you for however long it took to help you understand those pillars and how to implement them in your own life. I don’t want any woman to live another day hiding behind the camera, feeling uncomfortable in her own skin, trying a new diet that will fail only to make her feel like a failure, or missing out on her life right now.

In case you haven’t noticed, I could keep writing about this topic, but I’ll wrap it up for today.

What is it that you’d stand on a corner for? Whatever it is, I imagine you could go on and on about it as well.

Here’s to living fit and free!
