Stand Firm in Your Faith ~ Sunday Devotion
If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. Isaiah 7:9b (NIV)
Unless you integrate your faith and your fitness, you will not be able to stand against the pressures that come from society in regards to how you look and what you weigh. You’ll be easily swayed by diets, gimmicks, and quick fixes. You’ll put pressure on yourself and struggle with confidence in who and how God made you.
I did not stand firm in my faith when it came to how God made me, and I struggled because of it. I was easily swayed to try every diet and supplement I read about. I struggled with my confidence. I withered and hid from the life God created me to live until I realized that He wanted me to integrate my faith and fitness. I needed to build my fitness on the foundation of faith that I had known from childhood. To stand firm in your faith, it takes:
- Being anchored in God’s Word: Spending time regularly in Scripture helps us build a solid foundation that withstands the pressures and noise of society and diet culture. When you get into His Word, you’ll learn that He has a lot to say about how to care for our bodies in a healthy way.
- Prayer: Standing firm in your faith requires daily communication with the Lord. It’s the best way to keep our focus on Him.
- Trust in God’s Promises: When we trust in God’s faithfulness, we gain the confidence to stand firm in our pursuit of Christ in every area of our life, even our fitness.
- Community and Support: We are not meant to travel our faith and fitness journey alone. Standing firm in your faith will be easier when you surround yourself with a supportive community of women who encourage, uplift, and hold you accountable.
Action Step: Build your healthy life on a foundation of faith so that you can stand firm. When temptations to follow the latest trend come your way, you’ll be able to confidently stay on the path God has plotted for you.
