Spending Our Days ~ Sunday Devotional
“So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 (NKJV)
God has a plan and purpose for our lives. He knew us before we were born and had our lives mapped out for us. He saw ahead how we would spend our lives, the choices we would, and are yet to, make.
Our days are numbered. Do you want to spend those days obsessing over your weight and pursuing weight loss?
I used to think my life’s mission was to find the magic pill and lose all the extra weight around my midsection.
If someone said to me, “You look like you’ve lost weight. Have you been trying?” My response would be, “Always.”
It was no stretch to say that I felt like my life’s purpose was to lose weight. And yet, I remember reading everything I could about how to find God’s will for my life. I wanted to know what His will was. Surely He wanted more for me than to pursue weight loss?!
Well, He did. Thankfully though, those days weren’t wasted. It wasn’t that I lost all the weight, it was that I gained purpose: To help women break free from diets and discover how to feel good in their body.
I learned that He doesn’t want you and me spending our days obsessing over our weight.
He doesn’t want us to spend our days feeling uncomfortable in our bodies.
The Lord wants us to spend our days living the life He’s designed for us.
What has He called you to do? Who has He placed in your life to love and serve?
You can’t do those things and love those people when your days are spent counting calories, exercising for hours, feeling less than, and hiding from people and experiences.
How are you spending your days?
Are you happy with how you’re spending them? Is God pleased with how you’re spending the days He’s gifted you?
Spend today doing something that brings love and light to your soul, to those around you, and to your Heavenly Father.
