A Glimpse Into My Planner – What Happened in September
I got a new planner this year and so I started a series that I’m titling “A Glimpse Into My Planner”.
Each month* I’m giving you a glimpse of what’s been happening, because I now keep EVERYTHING in this planner since there is a space for EVERYTHING.
Just to recap:
Each day not only has lines for my to do list, it also has 3 sections that I love:
- The Big 3 – This helps me prioritize. What 3 things MUST I get done today?
- Wellness – Daily workouts.
- Gratitude – 3 things for which I’m grateful on that given day.
I also make note of things the Lord shows me during my daily quiet time.
This new planner has reduced my desk by 3 books, and I have it all in one place and I love it. I also love going back through my month to see what worked, what didn’t, what I got done, what I still need to do and so on.
September is a transitional month. Summer is over. School is back in session. But we’re not officially into the holiday season just yet. Still, for me, it’s a full month. It’s the month I celebrate my birthday, and this year I celebrated the one year mark of 40 Days of Faith and Fitness. I also attended my 100th training run with our local running club.
So let’s get into some of those highlights and other notes you might see if you took a glimpse into my planner.
Highlights
I am okay. I wrote about this in my birthday blog post. Over the last year I feel like I’ve been learning the difference between loving my body and accepting my body. Since body image issues have plagued me for all my life, I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to totally let it go. I think I have to be on guard and armed with God’s truth about who I am in Christ. And that has nothing to do with my body. There are many things He wants me to do, and none of those things require that my body look a certain way. I’ve come to a point where I care for my body, but I choose to have a neutral attitude toward it. It’s my body. It’s the vessel that allows me to do all God has called me to do. I am blessed with a healthy body, but to say I love everything about it may be a bit much. However, to say I’m okay and that I accept this body is more realistic. I’m embracing the okay in life. And I know I’m blessed.

Speaking to church group. I love to talk about faith and fitness, and I had the opportunity to visit the church of one of the ladies in my Facebook group. It was the first time we met in real life but I feel like I’ve known her quite awhile. It was a group of men and women 55+, and we talked about embracing this age and stage of life and how we can be good stewards of our bodies so we can continue with all that God still has for us to do.
Book anniversary. 40 Days of Faith and Fitness is one year old! I’ve been selling books regularly on Amazon and in my local bookstore since September last year. I’m grateful that these words have brought inspiration and motivation to men and women, teens to senior citizens, over the last year.
New book. I’m working on a new book that will release late October. My Faith and Fitness Facebook group helped me decide on a title: Turn Your Holidays into Holy-Days: 30 Day Guide to a Happy Healthy Christmas. It’s set up for you to go through daily in December. Not only does it include healthy living tips and guidance to get you ready for the New Year, it also includes devotions to help you enjoy the Christmas holiday and focus on the reason for the season.

Wellness
Like I mentioned in the beginning, I attended my 100th training run with Shelby Roadrunners. We meet three times a week and have been keeping attendance for several years. It’s quite a motivator for people. We eventually added the Century Club. This is for people who get to 100 or more training runs. Even though we have a list of nearly 50 who have attended at least once this year, the number of people who attend regularly enough to get to 100 is rather small. Actually about half dozen ever make it into this “elite” group. Because I’m “mom” of the group, I make it to most runs every year and have always achieved Century Club status. I also ran a 5K and placed 3rd in my age group. This was the boost of confidence I needed for my running right now.
Gratitude
- Special times with family
- Beta readers for my next devotional
- Rainy runs
- Yogi Socks
- Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins
- Comment from a student: “This is the best gym class we’ve done yet.”
- The arrival of fall and fall-like temperatures
- Homecoming parade
- Positive reports from fit and free gals

Faith
I also use my planner to jot down nuggets of wisdom from my morning quiet time. This month I’ve done a couple of short Beth Moore studies I found on the YouVersion app. One was a refresher of Breaking Free and another was a glimpse into her study The Quest. It’s been awhile since I did a Beth Moore study but I love digging into the Word with her. I just ordered Entrusted. It’s a study of 2 Timothy. I’m sure I’ll be sharing some takeaways next month.
Ethan was confirmed at the end of the month. This was a very special evening, and I know God has a call on his life. I always think of Mary, the mother of Jesus, during these special times. Like her I hold these moments special (see Luke 2:19) and feel blessed to be this young man’s mother.
Gosh, that was a lot of activity for one month! Thanks for being part of it. Cheers to the final quarter of 2018!
