Seek Peace ~ Sunday Devotional
All my years of seeking weight loss only led to bondage, worry, stress, anxiety, and distraction from that which was important.
During that time, what I really wanted was freedom from all of that.
Did you know that one definition of peace is “freedom of the mind”?
“Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.” Psalm 34:14 (NKJV)
I was seeking and pursuing weight loss all while wanting peace.
At the time, I thought pursuing a smaller waistline would result in happiness.
The title of the 34th chapter of the Psalms in my Bible is “The Happiness of Those Who Trust in God.”
I had put my faith and trust in God when I was a young girl, but I was not trusting Him with the size of my body. That was one area I tried to control.
Eventually, I learned that if I wanted that “freedom of mind” I had to depart from what I thought would lead to peace, and trust in God with everything, even the size of my body.
It took some time. I continue to actively pursue peace. You see, peace is not something you just have without doing anything.
There’s action in this verse. Seek. Pursue.
Left to my own devices, I could easily fall back into old ways of thinking and living in regards to my body. But I’m reminded that peace equals freedom of mind, a mind focused on Christ and on His truth about me and how He created me.
Chances are, if you’re pursuing weight loss you’re on a road that is taking you farther away from peace.
He wants us to live fit but also live free. Living fit and free IS possible.
Seek peace and the rest will begin to fall into place.
Happy Sunday!
