Sabbath ~ Sunday Devotional
“And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27 (NKJV)
A couple of years ago, my word for the year was “Breathe.”
God had shown me that I was getting caught up in busy-ness. In fact, I can say that much of my life is that way. (Hello Type A personality!)
Schedules! Routines! To-do lists! I don’t like to feel as if I’m not doing enough or doing my part.
I found myself working on my online business all the time and not necessarily seeing any benefits from it.
I’ve done the same with workouts in the past. If one workout a day is good, then two is better.
There is a reason God created the Sabbath. In fact, honoring the Sabbath is one of the Ten Commandments.
But like this verse in Mark says, the Sabbath is for you and me. It’s a gift that God has given us.
The Sabbath is not another thing for us to do but rather a state of being.
When God was showing me that I needed to learn to “breathe,” I realized that Sabbath is not necessarily a day of the week but a state of heart.
The Sabbath is not another thing for us to do but rather a state of being. Click To TweetWritten in the margin of my Bible by this verse is: Create space in your life for Christ to rule and reign.
Sabbath doesn’t necessarily need to be Sunday although God does call us to feed on His Word and gather together. But Sabbath is about creating space. It’s about making room for Christ to work in your life and mine.
Breathe. I had to learn to take time to simply be. Every moment, every day, doesn’t have to be filled with activity.
It’s okay to rest and do nothing. It’s necessary to just be, just breathe.
When was the last time you honored Sabbath? Try creating some space in your life for God today.
Happy Sunday!
