Return to the Lord ~ Sunday Devotion

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Lamentations 3:40 (NIV)

I have my chiropractor on speed dial. I can go months without seeing him, then all of a sudden I realize I should’ve gone yesterday. You know what I mean? I ignore a little discomfort here and there and keep pushing through my daily activities until I wake up one day and realize I need to get put back into alignment…today! 

It’s easy to get out of alignment, but oftentimes, it’s subtle. It happens little by little. A night of sleeping wrong. Being careless when you pick up something. Overdoing it. Stress. Over time, the tiny shifts get you completely out of alignment. It takes going to the doctor to get you back the way you were intended to be, moving about freely.

Examine your ways and return to the Lord. That's how you can function freely and confidently. #fitandfree Share on X

The same can happen with our approach to healthy living. In fact, as babies and young children, we honor our bodies how God made them. We eat when we’re hungry and stop when we’re full. We balance movement and rest. We are in tune with our bodies and comfortable in them. When we get uncomfortable – hungry, tired, etc. – we make adjustments, usually looking to our caregivers to help us. But something shifts over time, and we get out of alignment. Societal influences start weighing on us, making us adjust our thoughts and actions in ways we never were supposed to. This results in us becoming unhealthy physically, mentally, and spiritually. 

Some questions to help you examine your approach to healthy living:

  • Am I honoring the way God uniquely created me?
  • Do I listen to my body for hunger and fullness cues?
  • Am I allowing the Lord to meet my needs and guide my actions?
  • Have I allowed outside influences to pressure me into following plans and programs that I can’t sustain?

Do you need to make some adjustments? Do you need to return to the Lord and let Him put you back into alignment? He’s ready to meet with you. 

Action Step: Take a moment to examine your approach to healthy living. Is God guiding your way? If not, return to the Lord and let Him get you back in alignment with who and how He made you to be.
