Rely On ~ Sunday Devotion

Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 2 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV)

Weight loss consumes the minds of many women. For a long time, it was my mission in life. It was my sole focus. My relationship with my body was my biggest struggle. I didn’t feel as if God had done a very good job creating me. Everything I did, every thought I had, focused on seeking weight loss. Surely it would be the answer to all my worries and insecurities.

I devoured articles. I logged my food intake. I calculated the number of calories I burned exercising. And I prayed.

I took these concerns to the Lord. Because, deep down, I knew that I shouldn’t allow this goal in life – what I felt was my life’s purpose – to distract me from the life I needed to be living…in the now. But I couldn’t help myself. Seeking weight loss became an idol, and yet it kept me on my knees before the Lord.

This struggle taught me that I could rely only on the Lord in this and every area of my life.

Seeking weight loss taught me how to fully rely on God in every area of my life. He is faithful. Click To Tweet

God created each of us on purpose. Seeking weight loss was not what we were created to do. According to Romans 12, we are called to present ourselves to the Lord for His service. We must rely on His strength and guidance in every area of our lives.

Once I got things in perspective, I realized that this struggle had taught me how to fully rely on God.

We must first seek Jesus. When we put Jesus first and submit our life, all of it, to Him, the rest begins to fall into place.

It’s time for us to embrace this age and stage of life and rely on God to guide us. Anything and anyone but God will eventually fail you.

Action Step: Today is a popular day to be making resolutions. Spoiler alert: The diet will fail you, so please don’t waste your time. Instead, rely on God by building your healthy life on a foundation of faith. If He has the power to raise the dead then He can certainly help you with any struggle you’re currently having. Make 2023 different!

Happy Sunday!
