What Are You Pursuing? ~ Sunday Devotion
He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor. Proverbs 21:21 (NKJV)
What are you pursuing? If you asked me up to 10 years ago, I would have said weight loss. And the thing is, I would’ve been proud of that. I felt like that was the thing to do, the right thing, the noble thing, the thing to be proud of. It was what I was supposed to do. Even though I was miserable doing it. A lot has changed in 10 years. At the top, my pursuits.
To be clear, I’ve been a Christian most of my life, attending church and reading my Bible regularly, but weight loss worries consumed the majority of my time and energy. I had my priorities out of whack!
Are you pursuing something more than you are pursuing Christ and His will for your life? The answer to this question might be uncomfortable to admit, but be willing to get uncomfortable. On the other side is life. There you will experience freedom and peace. Things I know that you desperately desire. I know this because those were the things I wanted as well. Like you, I longed for freedom – freedom of mind and freedom from this struggle. I wrongly thought that life, peace, and freedom would only come when I lost the weight. How misguided. It wasn’t until I stopped pursuing weight loss and started pursuing God, and only Him, that I realized the life I had been missing out on. The life, the peace, the freedom that became available to me.
It’s all available to you too! Today, make the choice to change course. Start pursuing God in every single area of your life. Don’t relegate Him to only certain areas of your life. He wants to be involved in all areas of your life. When you allow Him His rightful place, you’ll discover the life you’ve truly been designed to live!
Action Step: Look at your daily schedule. What takes priority? What consumes most of your thoughts when you find your mind wandering? Answers to these questions will be a good first step in learning what you’re pursuing. If you don’t like what you uncover, you can change it today. Start by spending some time in prayer and God’s Word.
P.S. I created the Faith and Fitness Membership Community to help women who struggle to keep their pursuit of health and fitness where it needs to be: on a foundation of faith. I spent too many years allowing the pursuit of weight loss to trump all in my life. Sure, I had my daily devotions and lived a committed Christian life, but I still had my priorities out of whack. If this is you, the membership is what you need. Learn more here so that you too can start living fit and free!
