Open the Door ~ Sunday Devotion
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:20 (NIV)
If you’ve ever played hide and seek with a little one, you know that even though they start out hiding, they get so excited for you to find them that they end up giving themselves up. While you’re taking your time to find them, they come out and start jumping up and down shouting, “Here I am! Here I am!”
This is our Lord saying, “Here I am! I’m not hiding from you. I want you to find me.”
Last week, I asked you who you will invite in this coming year. I cautioned you about who to allow access to your thoughts and your plans. This week, the message is to invite the Lord in. He is at your door knocking, patiently waiting for you to open up.
While you’ll be bombarded with advertisements and emails and direct messages from people pushing their plans and programs, you won’t get that from the Lord. He’ll never push Himself on you. He’ll not barge into your space. He’ll simply knock and hope that you will open the door to Him.
What consumes your thoughts? Your time? Have those things crowded your space so that it’s become difficult to open the door to the Lord? Is it so crowded that you barely hear Him saying, “Here I am”?
This is not a game in which He’s making it difficult for us to find Him. We are not a game to Him, and He doesn’t want to be a challenge to us.
Will you clear the space and open the door of your heart to Him today?
Action Step: Although many people are knocking at your door right now, choose carefully who to open the door for. I pray that you’ll answer the Lord’s knock.
