Now That You Know ~ Sunday Devotion
Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:17 (NIV)
This verse comes at the end of the scene in scripture when Jesus washes the disciples’ feet. He just showed us our purpose in life – to love and serve others.
I lived many years of my life living as if losing weight was my purpose in life. I believed that once I succeeded in that then, and only then, could I move on to do whatever else God had for me. But the truth is that we are to obey Jesus and follow His example. Period.
Jesus sets the example for how to live. If we want a life of blessing, then we must follow that example and love and serve others. Share on XYou know, we can get wrapped up in doing a lot of different things. Not all “doing” is bad. But it is very important for us to seek God’s guidance in how we spend our time, talents, and treasures. He has set an example for us in how to live and how to love. We can easily become distracted by many things. By selfish things. Even by seemingly good things. But not all things are for us to do. We each have a special calling and unique gifts. Do you know what they are? Are you using them?
We’re not going to know what it is Jesus wants us to do until we spend time with Him. Through prayer and Bible study, we begin to learn. And then He says to us as He said to His disciples that day, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
Action Step: Before setting a goal or saying yes to the next thing, ask yourself, “Does this make me better so I can serve others better?” If it’s a yes, then go all in. If not, then ask God to show you the next step in His plan for you.
Happy Sunday!
