My Plans versus The Lord’s Purpose ~ Sunday Devotion

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

We all make plans. But the real question is: Whose plans will prevail—ours or the Lord’s?

I recently read this powerful statement: “The problem is not with the planning; the problem is when you don’t include God in the plans.” That truth especially hits home when it comes to our health and fitness.

While I don’t advocate for diets, I do encourage establishing healthy habits. And establishing healthy habits takes intentionality. Making a plan can be helpful. But the problem arises when we create plans without first seeking God’s guidance. When we invite Him into the process, our efforts become more aligned with lasting, sustainable change.

When I focus only on my plans, I tend to focus on numbers, start restricting, and often fall into guilt and shame. But when I include the Lord, my focus shifts. I begin to see my body as a gift, uniquely created and entrusted to me. I find grace instead of guilt, freedom instead of frustration. I learn to place healthy boundaries that reflect His love and wisdom.

The Lord’s purpose for us is to have peace in our lives. He wants us to live in freedom—freedom that can include a fit and healthy lifestyle. But it begins with surrendering our plans and aligning ourselves with His purpose.

Action Step: Have you been making health or fitness plans without inviting the Lord into them? Take some time today to talk to Him about your habits. Ask Him for wisdom and direction as you pursue health in a way that honors Him.

Happy Sunday!
