Make Wise Choices ~ Sunday Devotion

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)

The way you live matters. The habits you develop make a difference in the quality of your life. That’s why it’s important that we make wise choices in how we approach life and care for ourselves.

Every day, you and I are faced with the opportunity to make the most of our lives. The choices you make today impacts your tomorrow and yet we’re not promised tomorrow so we must make the most of today. That’s why we must make wise choices so that we can embrace our age and stage of life – to live it fully today but also to be prepared to go another day tomorrow if the Lord intends.

How do you embrace your age and stage of life?

The first step is gratitude. If you’re reading this, you’ve been blessed with another new day! Be thankful for the breath in your lungs. For the body God has entrusted to you. For the life and lives around you, where you live, the people with whom you associate. Take a walk and notice every breath you take and be thankful for the beauty around you.

The next step is to honor who and how God made you. This version of you. Not a past version of yourself or an unrealistic version that you’re trying to attain. Honor the you that you are right now. That means listening to your mind, body, and spirit and making wise choices in how you care for yourself. For example, eat things that satisfy you but don’t leave you feeling stuffed. Set boundaries around your schedule so you can spend time with the Lord as well as get adequate rest.

Finally, fix your focus on Jesus. Many things will try to distract you. Influencers will attempt to gain your attention (and your money!). Make wise choices about how you spend your time, your talents, and your treasures. Let go of the shoulds and the shame and step into freedom of living the life God designed for you.

Action Step: Are you making wise choices that will help you embrace your age and stage of life? Today is your opportunity to start living your best life. Start with gratitude for this day then do one thing that will honor the woman God made you to be.

Happy Sunday!
