The Lord’s Correction ~ Sunday Devotion

My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12 (NKJV)

Part of the process of God setting me free from the struggles in regards to my weight and body image was to show me the error of my ways. I had to come face to face with my sin. Although I was self-conscious and had been misguided as a child about my weight and body, I also had to admit that some of this was rooted in pride. I simply thought about myself too much.

Sure, my thoughts might have been negative, but I was still consumed with my stuff, with me. Because God loves me, He showed me how I had allowed this body image struggle to become an idol in my life. Seeking weight loss had become an idol. I spent all of my time thinking about it, pursuing it, and desiring it more than anything else.

Because you love your child, you don’t let him sit in front of a television or play video games eight hours a day. You set timers and assign chores. You send him outside to play. When your child doesn’t follow your rules, there are consequences. Why? You love him. You want the best for him.

Surrender to the Lord's correction to truly start living. #FaithAndFitness #FitAndFree Click To Tweet

When I surrendered to the Lord’s correction, I started living, truly living. I thought that the diets I was pursuing was the answer to feeling better about myself, but God showed me that He was the answer.

When your child turns off the television, unplugs from the gaming system, and goes outside, he’ll find so many opportunities for fun and friendship. A whole new world will open up for him.

God loves you and me too. That unsettled feeling that you have is the Holy Spirit trying to get your attention. He wants to show you that there’s a better way. Will you surrender to the Lord’s correction?

Action Step: Pray the words of Psalm 139: 23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Allow God to bring to mind anything that is keeping you from all that He has for you and ask Him to set you free.

Happy Sunday!
