The Lord Chose You ~ Sunday Devotional
The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples…But it was because the Lord loved yo. Deuteronomy 7:7-8 (NIV)
I recently noticed this verse because it was on the back of my church’s youth group t-shirts. According to God’s Word Translation the verse reads: “The Lord set His heart on you and chose you.”
What a powerful word no matter what age you are.
In some versions, the verse starts out “The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples…”
Basically, the Lord didn’t choose you because of something you did. In today’s society, it might read, “The Lord didn’t set His heart on you and choose you because…
You are the most popular.
You are successful.
You are thin.
You have the right last name.
You are at the top of your class or the CEO of a corporation.
Fill in the blank with anything you think qualifies you to be loved by God. Because the truth is, there is nothing you can do, no one you can be, no way that you can look that will determine God’s love, or lack thereof, for you.
He loves you. Period.
He loves you because He created you. He chose you. Before the world knew you, God loved you. He set His heart on you.
No matter your age or stage of life, you need to know that God loves you. He chose you. You have His heart.
