How To Live a Long Life ~ Sunday Devotion
The fear of the Lord makes life longer, but the years of the sinful will be cut off. Proverbs 10:27 (NLV)
At nearly 50, I’m thinking more about how to live a long life. I’m hoping I’m only halfway to the end, but I want to do what I can to make sure it’s just halfway!
The commentary in my Bible by Proverbs 10:27 says this: Proverbs are not necessarily promises or absolutes but guidelines. Usually the righteous will live longer than the wicked because the lifestyle of the wise brings peace, security, and a lack of anxiety. These blessings of wisdom contribute to the wise person’s health and longevity.
Our mindset has an impact on how long we will live. Up until I was 40 years old, I didn’t have peace in my life. I wasn’t secure in who I was and how God made me. Beginning at an early age, anxiety ruled anytime I had to be around people. If I was still tied up in those knots, I wouldn’t have the positive outlook on my life and my future.
Thanks be to God that I allowed Him to set me free. I now have hope of a long life still ahead!
Of course, there are many things outside of our control, but why not do our best with what we have right now? God entrusted to you and me a body and asked us to care for it. Not in an obsessive way, but in a way that will free us up to be present and embrace our now.

If you need to renew your faith, your fitness, and your mindset so that you can be confident in your life now and the coming years, stay tuned for my next devotional A Walk Through the Psalms. I anticipate it to come out early 2023.
It’s time to set your focus on the Lord and be present to live the long life He still has planned for you.
Action Step: Does your lifestyle bring a sense of peace and security? If not, take some time in prayer to ask God to help you shift your focus. Then allow Him to set you free.
Happy Sunday!
