When We Invite Him In ~ Sunday Devotion
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. Luke 5:5-6 (NIV)
The disciples had been out fishing. It was the thing they knew how to do and what they did best. But that night, they had come up empty. When the Lord joined them, He told them to try it again. Because of the lack of success throughout the night, they weren’t hopeful, but they were obedient. As a result, they were blessed abundantly.
Have you been trying to live a healthy life without inviting the Lord to guide your efforts? Have you done it on your own for so long that you haven’t even thought that the Lord might have a better plan for you? Have you settled for times of success followed by periods of emptiness and failure? Has it ever occurred to you that the Lord is standing at the shore ready to join you and show you a better way?
The Lord is at the shore waiting. Will you invite Him in? Share on XThe disciples were likely exhausted and ready to give up after a night of trying and failing. When Jesus told them to try again, they had to choose faith and obedience. They were rewarded, not only with a net full of fish, but even more. The Lord had something better for them in their future. He was preparing them to become fishers of men.
I’ve worked with countless women who have taken the courageous step to ditch diets and take an integrated approach to their health and fitness by building it on a foundation of faith. Not only have they learned how to adopt healthy habits that are sustainable, but they have found a stronger faith and a supportive community of women. Learning to live fit and free was so much more than what they had hoped for.
The Lord had better things in store for the fishermen. He does for you, too, if you’ll invite Him in and allow Him to guide you on your journey.
Action Step: Have you been trying to do things your way? Or worse, someone else’s way? Does your net keep coming up empty? God has a better way. Will you invite Him in? When you do, be prepared for more blessings than you can imagine.
Happy Sunday!
