What Are You Hungry For? ~ Sunday Devotion
For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107:9 (NLT)
We toss around the word “hungry” in regards to many things. It’s been a few hours since we’ve eaten, and we’ll say, “I’m hungry.” You’re less than an hour into your road trip, and you hear from the backseat, “I’m hungry.” The reference is used about teams and athletes: They’re hungry for a title, for a winning season, etc. I’m not sure that any of us really knows what it means to be truly hungry as it relates to food and starvation. We’re quite blessed in that regard.
No matter how you apply it, being hungry generally means a craving or strong desire for something. I’d like to say that my strongest desires have been driven to know the Lord more, to learn His Word, and to be filled with His Spirit. But I can’t say that has always been my craving and desire. I used to think that finding lasting love with a husband would satisfy me. I thought being successful in my work and being financially independent would fill me with confidence. I definitely desired a smaller body and believed only when I got that would I be satisfied.
What are you truly hungry for? If it's anything other than more of Jesus, you'll never be satisfied. Share on X
Oh how misguided were my cravings and desires. I was starving unnecessarily. Physically, I was restricting food when that wasn’t the answer. Emotionally, I was cutting myself off from community instead of connecting with others. Spiritually, I was living in bondage when God wanted to set me free.
God has so many good things in store for you and me. Are you hungry for more of Him, or are you craving more of what the world has to offer?
Action Step: What are you hungry for? The Lord has good things for you if you’ll turn to Him and let Him satisfy your deepest desires. May you only have a craving for Him.
Happy Sunday!
