How Long? ~ Sunday Devotional
“How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?” Psalm 4:2 (NIV)
Could we be willing to ask God to expose our delusions and false gods?
For context, this is a Psalm of David. According to Bible commentary, he is not only addressing the people but himself as well.
This week’s memory verse in the membership community is 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Do my actions and yours bring glory to God?
This is a daily commitment I have to make. Often I have to refocus multiple times a day.
For far too many years, and even now, I find myself seeking things that won’t fulfill. The false gods of weight loss, pursuit of success at all costs, only looking out for number one.
I can easily become distracted by the illusion of what a happy life looks like and what the best version of me should be.
God desires one thing from us and that is for us to glorify Him.
How do we do that?
We rid our lives of delusions and false gods.
False gods? But those are ancient. You only see false gods in other countries and other religions.
Nope. False gods exist right here. Here in my heart and in yours.
When we put something or someone before God in our lives, it becomes a false god. We get bound up to that idea, pursuit, focus, or person.
God gives us many good things. He desires good for us. He wants us to be happy and to be successful in this life, but not at the cost of knowing Him.
Has something distracted you or taken His place in your life? Don’t let another day go by and allow your life to be out of sorts.
Dare to pray the prayer asking God to expose the delusions and false gods so that your life can bring Him glory.
Each of us serves someone or something. Let’s be sure that we’re serving God.
How long?
I don’t want to go even one day moving away from Jesus. I don’t think you do either. If you’ve been wandering, tell Him you want to stop today. No more wandering.
Happy Sunday!
