His Word Saved Me ~ Sunday Devotional
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Psalm 119:92 (NIV)
I can’t imagine how my life would be today had I not made a decision to follow Jesus.
He never promised that we would be without hardships, but He did promise that He would always be with us.
Although I struggled a great deal over the years with body image, self-esteem, etc. and looked to diets for the answers to those problems, I always spent time in God’s Word. For many years, I read the Bible seeking answers and prayed about my insecurities. Even though it took me a long time to completely surrender this area of my life to Christ and fully embrace His unconditional love for me, I knew He had the answers – that He was the answer. So I kept reading and praying and seeking. Yes, I also kept circling that mountain in the desert, that one that included all the diets, gimmicks, and quick fixes I could find, but I was never far from His presence.
Without Him, I would’ve perished. Without His Word, I could have gone down so many other roads, roads that would’ve taken me dangerously far away.
The verse that follows the one above says: I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. Safety and security is found in God’s Word.
Because scripture had such a profound effect on not only my life as a whole but also, and most significantly, on how I found freedom from struggles in regards to weight and body image, I started sharing them. I first shared the verses in an email series nearly five years ago that became my first book. Then I continued to share them weekly on social media until they became part of my latest book.
God has something to say about anything that you are facing. Whatever you’re going through, His Word addresses it. You’re not alone. There are answers. You can find guidance and words of encouragement throughout the pages of the Bible. But you have to let those words penetrate your heart. Don’t just read them. Allow them to sink in and change you. Believe that they are written for you, to you.
Psalm 139:14: You are fearfully and wonderfully made. That wasn’t written about just anyone or about everyone else. It was written for you, to you.
God sent His Son, not for everyone else, but for you.
Spend some time in God’s Word today. Read it with anticipation, with expectation. He’s there. He wants to reveal Himself to you and speak into your life with those words. Will you let Him?
Happy Sunday!
