My Hidden Faults ~ Sunday Devotion

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Psalm 19:12 (NLT)

A couple of months ago, I decided it was time to start cleaning things out of my house. If we are ever going to move or do any home improvement projects, we first have to get rid of some stuff! I think the ladies at the local thrift store are beginning to expect my weekly drop off.

Because I can get easily overwhelmed with big projects, I have simply committed to spending a little time every day going through a closet, drawer, room, etc. I’ve filled bags of trash and boxes to donate. Some of the things have sentimental value that brought happy memories, and other things no longer serve a purpose. I’ve run across things that I didn’t even know I had and found things I thought I’d never see again. Kent has been in this house over 30 years, and I’ve been here almost 22. How can we even know everything that’s here?

My heart can become just like my closets. It can become filled with things that don’t serve me, things I don’t need. Soon, other things pile on top of them, and they become hidden, hidden faults, hidden sin. Sometimes I’m not even aware that it’s there, but it’s crowding my heart and not allowing room for God to fill it with good things.

This cleaning out hasn’t been a fun job, but it’s been rewarding. I’ve gotten my hands dirty and have had to get into dusty corners with cobwebs, but with each space that’s cleaned out, I feel a little lighter. I have breathing room. I’ve been able to donate items that could bring good to others. Some of the items I’ve been able to sell and make a few extra dollars. I’ve gotten stronger as I’ve carried boxes of books from upstairs out to my car. I’m starting to see possibilities for fresh paint and new carpet in areas.

Are you ready to do some cleaning? Ask God to cleanse your hidden faults to make more room for Him. He has a plan for you. #GodsWord Click To Tweet

I started this project because I knew we weren’t even close to being ready to make a move with all the stuff in our house. I have to do this work before we can move forward.

If I want God to use me, I have to be ready. I can’t have sin and hidden faults in my life. As much as I might not enjoy the work of it, allowing God to shine a light into my innermost parts to clean out what’s not serving me will prepare me for what He wants to do through me.

Do you need to do some house cleaning? Is it time to ask God to shine a light into your heart and cleanse you? It might not be easy but the reward will be worth it.

Action Step: Ask God to shine a light into your heart and cleanse you from anything that’s hiding there. It might be uncomfortable but the result will bring freedom and new life.

Happy Sunday!
