Start Living Healthy: Some Questions to Consider as Make Your Plan
Awhile back Ethan & I saw the movie “Mr. Holmes” (as in Sherlock!). It got me thinking about how we have to do some good detective work when we want to start living healthy. We have to ask some questions.
A good detective knows that gathering evidence and finding answers takes time.
It’s the same with me and you. If you’re ready to start living healthy, grab a journal and start taking some notes.
First you need to make some observations. You don’t have to jump in and start changing things. You have to figure out what needs to be changed. Sure you may want to start living healthy, but how is that going to look for you?

Some things to observe:
- Exercise
- Nutrition
- Sleep habits
- Mood
Some questions to ask:
- How does my body respond to my workout?
- Do I enjoy the exercise I’m currently doing?
- Am I getting quality sleep?
- Do I feel refreshed when I get up in the morning?
- How does my body respond to my eating habits?
- Am I experiencing cravings or am I hungry all the time?
- When do I find myself dragging?
- What foods seem to satisfy and give me energy?
- How many hours did I sleep on the days I feel most refreshed?
- When I label a day as a “good” day, what did I do? How did I feel to come to that conclusion? Then on the flip side, do the same for a “bad” day.
Maybe you’re in a training slump. Maybe it’s time to switch it up a bit. Make some changes then observe how your body responds to this way of training.
It’s the same with our nutrition. Finding out what properly fuels my body, gives me energy, and staves off hunger takes some time & information gathering.

You see, you and I are each “fearfully & wonderfully made.” Our fingerprints are different and unique. The hairs on my head have been counted, and I’m sure it’s not the same number as yours. Why then do we seem to think that there is a way to eat and exercise that is the same for everyone??
Instead of studying your friend’s or your personal trainer’s health and fitness plan, how about taking some time to investigate your own?
Begin to consider the questions above. It’ll take time. But you HAVE the time. Good detectives stick with a case until they solve it. They build on information they have and keep looking for more. It’ll take some trial and error, but when you begin to appreciate the very unique YOU that you’ve been given to care for, you’ll realize that there’s no one else quite like it….. And that’s a beautiful thing!
