He Will Guide You ~Sunday Devotion
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13 (NIV)
If you go to Amazon and search “guidebook,” you’ll find over 50,000 results. There is a guidebook for everything. I found guidebooks to make travel plans to anywhere in the world. In fact, I have used such books for planning vacations over the years. (I do recommend them!) I also found guidebooks for how to do anything from drawing a tattoo to writing a resume for a federal job. I found a guidebook to prayer, for mindful living, to the Bible. I even found The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: A Practical Guidebook to Free Yourself and Your Family from a Lifetime of Clutter. That one sounded interesting.
As you can see, you can find a book to guide you through or to do anything and everything. There’s certainly a place for those. How many times have you gone to YouTube and searched how to do or fix something? We all need guidance at one time or another. If you haven’t needed any yet, I’m sure something is going to come up that you’re going to need some help with.
We have a guide who lives within us. The Holy Spirit will guide you if you will look to Him and allow Him to. Share on X
There’s so much noise around us. We live in the information age. We too easily believe everything we read. But it’s not always true. I mean, take the plethora of diets you can find online and the coaches who try to sell the latest and greatest products. Sure, some of them might work or be legit. But none of them know you. None know the inner workings of who you are and how you were made. You need the Spirit of truth to guide you as you make the right decisions for you and your unique body.
One version of this verse says, “He (the Holy Spirit) will unveil the reality of every truth within you.” How? He lives in you. The Holy Spirit in you will guide you. You have the truth. You know the truth.
For years, I knew I needed to embrace who and how God made me to be, but I rebelled against that. Instead, I looked to others and to misinformation in magazines (my internet at that time!) to guide me. That only led me farther away from the One who had the answers that I needed.
Action Step: Who are you allowing to guide you? Yes, there is helpful information around us, but first ask the Spirit to guide you to the right support. You know the truth and that truth can set you free.
Happy Sunday!
