Grow Where You’re Planted
On a recent walk, this little flower caught my eye. It didn’t belong there. It was all by itself among rocks by the alley. But this flower didn’t know it didn’t belong. Or, maybe it did know this wasn’t the typical place a flower should sprout, and it chose to take up residence right there anyway.
I know I’m taking quite a bit of liberty giving this flower a mind of its own, but it’s because I started seeing myself in this flower.
I grew up feeling out of place. I was painfully shy and incredibly insecure. I hated the spotlight. I chose to fade into the background as much as possible. I would have never had the confidence of this flower to show up somewhere alone or do something that I was the only one doing. This led to a long life of insecurity and thinking that if I could only look different – thinner, more attractive – I would fit in.
While the Lord has brought me a long way in healing my relationship with my body and gaining confidence in who I am in Christ, I’m still not sure I have the courage of that little flower. I might now be able to walk into a gathering alone or do something that goes against the grain of society, but I’m cringing inside. It’s taking everything, and I mean every ounce of courage, to do it confidently.
Confidence is the ability to grow where you're planted. #YouBeYou Click To Tweet
Confidence is hard for many women. We’ve been conditioned to believe that our confidence is a result of how we look and what we do. But confidence is the ability to grow where you’re planted. Like the flower. It could’ve easily died and never taken up residence in that unlikely place. Instead, it sprouted. It’s showing its colors and standing out among those rocks. It brought a smile to my face. By being there, that flower challenged me to be a better version of myself.
When you and I choose to show up confidently where God has planted us, we can have a positive impact on others as well.
Where has God planted you? Have you questioned why you’re there? Has your confidence wavered for one reason or another? God sees you. He knows exactly where you are, and He has a plan for you. You belong.
Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. Jeremiah 17:7 (NIV).
You are blessed!
