A Daily Dose of Grace
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)
I first shared that verse in 2017 when I published my devotional 40 Days of Faith and Fitness. I shared how I believed that my struggles with weight, self-image, negative self-talk, etc. were the things that kept me on my knees. I confessed that even though I had been counseling and coaching women, I still struggled at times.
That hasn’t changed. Two days, two years, ten years or more after God set me free by leading me out of a desert of diets, gimmicks, and quick fixes, I still ride the struggle bus some days. Sometimes it’s in the form of comparison to others. Other times I’m wishing for a smaller body. Some days I’ll take a dozen pictures before I’m comfortable with posting one.
You may be struggling, but you're not failing. You just need a fresh dose of grace, and He's ready to give it to you. Share on X
To say it candidly, some days I’m living totally fit and free, but other days it takes everything in me to believe and apply my own stuff.
I know, that’s not very encouraging, is it? What’s my point? Well, it’s this…
The struggle may never go away completely, and I have to think that it’s not supposed to because we need the Lord. We need a daily dose of grace. Without the struggle, it is easy to ignore Him.
This struggle with my weight and body image is always close to the surface. It doesn’t control me but only because I’ve learned that I must start each day asking for help in this area. Daily, I lay it at the feet of Jesus. Some days, it stays there all day. Other days, I pick it back up, so I go before Him the next day for a fresh dose of grace.
If you’re struggling, know that you’re not failing. The Lord wants you to stay close to Him. He doesn’t expect you to be strong on your own. It’s in our weakness that we gain His strength. This is why it’s so important to realize that we must integrate our faith and fitness. We can’t do fitness, or any part of our lives, without Him being part of it.
You’re not failing. In fact, if you’re feeling a little weak, you’re exactly where the Lord wants you to be. You can’t do it on your own. He doesn’t expect you to. Go to Him for a fresh dose of grace and start to recognize His power in you.
