Give It Some Thought ~ Sunday Devotion
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:26-27 (NIV)
Do you give it some thought before you embark on a fitness plan?
For years, I’d try anything that promised quick weight loss. I’d buy the pill, start drinking the shake, or sign up for the challenge. I never thought it through. I wanted results yesterday, so there was no time to give it some thought. I bought into all the quick fixes. If I’d only given it some thought, I would’ve realized that the promises were too good to be true.
What I did give thought to, however, what I thought about all the time, was my weight. It consumed my thoughts. And that was the problem. I didn’t need to be thinking about and worrying about my weight. Also, I didn’t need to be searching for a new plan all the time. I needed to get committed to one and stick with it. As today’s verse states: Give careful thought to the path and be steadfast.

Give it some thought then stick to it.
Our fitness needs to be a focus (but not THE focus!) in our lives because we must be healthy to be about the Father’s business. But that doesn’t require us to be a certain size or look a certain way. Therefore, it doesn’t require a diet or weight loss plan. It simply means that we need to have the energy and functional fitness to do what God has called us to do. Fitness needs to be an aspect of our lives but not our top priority. Your life’s purpose is not to lose weight.
Once you’ve given thought to your approach to healthy living, you must stay committed. Don’t allow false promises to distract you. You’ll be tempted to quit or to get off course and follow something that will only lead to another failure, but stay on your path. If you’ve given some thought to your approach and are building it on a foundation of faith, you can trust that God is in this plan.
Action Step: Are you following the path God has designed for you? Have you gotten off course? Give it some thought today, then commit to it and start moving forward on the path God is leading you.
Happy Sunday!
