So Far From Us ~ Sunday Devotion

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12 (NLT)

I have read and heard this passage dozens of times, but recently when I read it, three words jumped out at me like never before. Far from us. Keyword being us, you and me.

Have you done this too? You’re familiar with a verse, but then you really read it and wonder how you missed this? Anyway, that’s how I felt when I read Psalm 103:12. I’ve been skimming over the three words that give this verse a very personal meaning. I knew that God removed my sins as far as the east is from the west. But He removed them far from us, far from me.

Then why is it so easy for me to go back to old ways, old thoughts, old patterns? Maybe it’s because I struggle to receive this endless grace.

Satan wants nothing more than for us to remain in bondage to our sins, but God has removed them so far from us and set us free. Share on X

When I truly receive and believe His forgiveness, my sins are tossed so far from me that I shouldn’t be able to see them, remember them, or return to them. They’re gone. And yet, I return. Or I allow guilt and shame to start sneaking into my thoughts and feelings reminding me of my failures.

It’s time to embrace the freedom that comes with this type of forgiveness. Satan wants nothing more than for us to stay tied to these sins and to allow guilt and shame to rule our hearts. But Christ has removed our sins far from us and set us free. Are you walking in that freedom today?

Action Step: When you start to feel guilt or shame over past sins, remember that God has removed those sins, and He remembers them no more, so you can forget them too. Praise Him for His forgiveness, embrace your freedom, and keep moving forward.

Happy Sunday!
