The Truth About False Gods ~ Sunday Devotional

“How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?” Psalm 4:2 (NIV)

Could we be brave enough to ask God to expose our delusions and false gods?

1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Do my actions and yours bring glory to God? I turn this verse into a prayer every morning. Often, I have to refocus multiple times a day.

For far too many years, I found myself seeking things that wouldn’t fulfill. The false gods of weight loss. The delusions that a smaller body would equal a better life, a better me. I can easily become distracted by the illusion of what a happy life looks like and what the best version of me should be. At one time, happiness was a lower number on the scale, and the best version of me was always smaller.

When we put something before God in our lives, it becomes a false god. The pursuit of weight loss can easily fall into that category. Share on X

God desires one thing from us, and that is for us to glorify Him. How do we do that?

We start by ridding our lives of delusions and false gods.

False gods? But those are ancient. You only see false gods in other countries and religions. Not exactly. False gods exist right here. Here in my heart and in yours. When we put something or someone before God in our lives, it becomes a false god. We get chained to that idea, pursuit, focus, or person.

God gives us many good things. He desires good for us. He wants us to be happy and to be successful in this life, but not at the cost of knowing Him.

Action Step: Has something distracted you or taken His place in your life? Don’t let another day go by with your life being out of sorts. Dare to ask God to expose the delusions and false gods so that your life can bring Him glory.

Each of us serves someone or something. Let’s be sure that we’re serving God.

Happy Sunday!
