Experiences and Lessons ~ Sunday Devotional

I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw: Proverbs 24:32 (NIV)

If we allow them, every life experience teaches us a lesson, and we’ll be better for it.

A couple of verses before this one, we read that the author observes the field of a lazy man. And then he tells us what he learns about the farmer’s actions, or lack thereof.

Life is full of lessons. Our own lives and the lives of those around us. We simply have to observe. Become students of our experiences and allow the experiences of others to teach us as well.

When I was younger and struggling with all things related to my body, my weight, and how I viewed myself, I felt extremely alone. I googled things like “faith and fitness” and “freedom,” but I couldn’t find any answers. I read my Bible, but I still wanted to hear from someone who had found her way through the same struggle I was dealing with.

Eventually I came across Lysa TerKeurst’s book Made to Crave. It was pivotal for me, but I was nearly 40 years old by then. I’d been struggling for most of those 40 years!

God’s timing is perfect. And I don’t question the years that I struggled, but I do know that you don’t have to continue to struggle with your insecurities. Today could be your pivotal moment! I learned from what Lysa shared in her book and from what God taught me through His Word and His Holy Spirit. I’ve applied those lessons so that I can live fit and free. Now I share my experience and those lessons so that you can apply them to your own life and allow God to change you and set you free.

I see too many hurting women. I watch too many women attempt to validate themselves by pursuing a number on a scale. They’re basing their worth on something fleeting. While they’re focusing on this, they’re missing out on the full life God has designed for them to live.

I don’t want you to miss out on what God has for you. Look at what I’ve gone through and allow my experience to help you find freedom in your life.

If you have questions about my struggle and how I started living fit and free, please feel free to email me at marsha@marshaapsley.com.

Happy Sunday!
