Positive Expectation ~ Sunday Devotion
In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3 (NIV)
How do you roll out of bed? When you stand up, do you feel the weight of yesterday’s stress or the heaviness of today’s to-do list before your feet even touch the floor? Or do you wake with a sense of positive expectation, knowing that God is already present and working in your day?
Whether you consider yourself a morning person or not, the way we begin our day shapes everything that follows—our attitude, our choices, and even our energy. Psalm 5:3 reminds us that we have a powerful opportunity each morning: to start with intention and expectation. Before the coffee, before the emails, even before the workout clothes go on, we can meet with God.
David says, “In the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” There’s something deeply powerful about that. It’s not just a ritual—it’s a mindset. When you open your eyes, take a moment to breathe deeply, acknowledge God’s presence, and lay down anything that feels heavy or uncertain. Give your concerns, your goals, and even your body’s needs over to Him. This simple act of surrender invites peace, purpose, and strength into your morning.
The tone of your day is set before your feet hit the floor. Take a moment with the Lord then rise with confidence that He'll go with you. Share on XThen, take action. Stretch. Drink a glass of water. Get a dose of fresh air and some easy movement. Your body is a gift, and so is this new day. Rise with the confidence that God hears your voice, sees your efforts, and delights in walking with you—spiritually and physically—through it all.
Action Step: Before you get out of bed, say a short prayer or recite a verse that centers your heart. Then plant your feet firmly on the floor, breathe deeply, and rise with positive expectation. God is already ahead of you on this day, ready to guide your every step.
(Speaking from experience, a cup of coffee and a piece of chocolate will make it even better!)
Happy Sunday!
