Eagerly Awaiting ~ Sunday Devotion

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Philippians 3:20-21 (NIV)

What are you eagerly awaiting?

We don’t use the word “eager” often. However, it does make me think of children waiting for Santa, or teachers counting down the days until summer break ;-). I imagine those who started a new diet in January were eager for a transformation. Anytime I started a new diet or found a “promising” supplement, I was eager for results. My focus was on the here and now and getting a quick fix to my weight loss woes.

Are we as expectant for Jesus as we are for Santa, summer break, or results the latest diet claims it’ll give us?

There’s more to life than achieving a certain body size. God didn’t create us so that we’d try to transform ourselves into a smaller being. Our bodies are vessels to be used here on earth for God’s glory. The transformation we should be longing for is the one that will take place when we meet Him in Heaven.

Are you eagerly waiting what Christ can do through you here on earth as well as the transformation that will come only when you get to Heaven? Or, are you only thinking about life here on earth? Click To Tweet

A couple of verses prior to these, Paul writes: “there are many who walk along the Christian road who are really enemies of the cross of Christ. Their future is eternal loss, for their god is their appetite: they are proud of what they should be ashamed of; and all they think about is this life here on earth.”

All they think about is life here on earth. I’ve been there. I’ve been that one walking along the Christian path when my focus was on me, right here and right now. I wasn’t eagerly awaiting Heaven; I was impatiently seeking selfish desires, namely a smaller body. In my mind, I thought that was the answer to all my problems. But Jesus was the answer. He is the answer to all my needs and desires. When we put Him first, He’ll transform us here on earth, for His glory, as well as fully transform us when we see Him in Heaven.

We’re not supposed to be fully satisfied here on earth. Our purpose is to love Jesus, love others, and eagerly await His return. Then, and only then, will our lowly bodies be transformed into a glorious one.

Action Step: Are you eagerly waiting what Christ can do through you here on earth as well as the transformation that will come only when you get to Heaven? Or, are you only thinking about life here on earth? Today is a good day to assess our goals.

Happy Sunday!
