The Importance of Drinking Water for a Healthy Lifestyle

Drink early. Drink often.

Wait a minute! What???

Slow down. I’m talking water here. Yes, I know “It’s 5:00 somewhere,” but that’s not what I’m talking about!  🙂

I’ve been sharing what I believe to be the 4 pillars of a sustainable healthy lifestyle. After giving an overview last week, Monday I shared that a foundation of faith is the most important part of your lifelong healthy journey.

Today is all about the water. Drinking water.

Some people will tell you 8 glasses a day. Others say drink a gallon of water.

I’ve landed a bit in the middle and say drink half your body weight in ounces of water. So for me, last time I had a scale I was in the 150 range, so I shoot for 75 ounces of water daily. I also like this method because I firmly believe that your health and fitness is very unique to you. And therefore basing YOUR water intake on YOUR weight makes your daily water requirement another reminder that you have to do you! Eight glasses of water a day might work for your 130 pound friend. A large active male may shoot for a gallon of water a day.

But how much should YOU drink? You must focus on you.

I think we know many of the benefits of drinking water….

It fills you up to aid in suppressing appetite.

It keeps things moving smoothly.  (And that’s all I’ll say about that ;-))

It flushes out toxins.

It helps regulate body temperature.

It’s good for your skin.

Start drinking water today and you'll be on track to lifelong healthy living. #drinkwater Click To Tweet

I’ve seen firsthand how replacing a daily soda with water can result in major weight loss. When you add water to your daily intake, you often replace something else and usually it’s something that wasn’t beneficial to begin with, like that sugary soda or flavored coffee.

And if you don’t drink much of anything at all and add water to your daily routine, you will notice increased energy.  You will likely hit the restroom more often but that’s good because it’s flushing out the bad stuff.  You see, water doesn’t make you bloat, you bloat when your body is trying to hold onto water because it thinks it’s not going to get more of it.

Establishing a sustainable healthy lifestyle doesn’t require a bunch of huge changes all at once. Increasing your water intake is a good place to begin. Like mentioned earlier, your energy will increase. If you feel bloated, you may see some relief from that. It will help curb your appetite. It’s a great starting point.

What are you waiting for? Go grab a glass right now and start chugging!
