Don’t Miss Him ~ Sunday Devotion
But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. Luke 21:34 (NKJV)
We recently celebrated Advent. Simply, advent means coming. During Advent, we anticipate and celebrate the coming of Christ at His birth. As Christians, we also await His second coming.
The third way we can celebrate His coming is daily.
Christ comes to us daily. Did you even realize? Do you see Him? Welcome Him? Expect Him?
Essentially, this verse is warning us that we will miss Christ when we get distracted. I certainly don’t want to miss His second coming, but I also don’t want to miss Him daily. I need His presence in my life each and every day.
But when I become distracted by the cares of the world, I can miss Him. Have you done the same?

The new year brings with it goals and resolutions, fresh starts and self-improvement. We’ve moved on from December when our focus was directed more easily to things like faith and family. For many, that focus is now on a better body, climbing the corporate ladder, and keeping up with busy schedules.
I missed a lot when I was distracted by my constant pursuit of weight loss. My time with the Lord was a task on my to-do list rather than a privilege I enjoyed every day.
You and I have the privilege of His presence daily. Have you allowed something to distract you from Him? You can change that. Make time for Him today. I guarantee that all the other things will fall into place. In fact, you’ll soon realize that His coming to you on the daily is more important than anything else. When you honor Him, He’ll show you how to navigate the rest of your life.
He’s coming to you today. Whether it will be Him parting the skies and coming for all of us or Him coming to each of us personally, He’s coming. Will you notice?
Action Step: What’s been distracting you? Confess it to the Lord and commit to daily time with Him this week.
Happy Sunday!
